Portals as research tool for overly-policed communities
Tackle challenges faced by local refugee communities and build unique, tailored solutions to specific community needs
Global public health hackathons where students form teams with local refugees from Beirut and Gaza and design solutions together
Taught participants transferable design skills including cultural literacy, teamwork, and design thinking. Solutions developed are now in the process of commercialization.
Students designed a range of technical solutions, including: an ambulance telecom system that alerts hospitals of incoming patients, a mask that prevent the inhalation of tear gas by health care first responders, a bandage infused with a coagulant and antibiotics, and a self-stabilizing splint for limbs to prevent further injury.
